Is your character Dead, Undead or Alive: This is actually…tricky. Dimitri is a Dhampir, which makes him half human and half vampire. His father is a Moroi, or a living vampire. Dimitri was killed in action, and then revived as an undead Strigoi. He has since been restored by spirit magic, returning him to his Dhampir state. So, in his lifetime, he has been alive, dead, and undead. Currently he is likely considered alive, but feel free to put him wherever you like.

History: Wikia Link

Personality:

The first impression most people get from Dimitri is that, although handsome enough for his looks to be described as ‘god-like,’ he’s somewhat anti-social, stoic, and likes to keep to himself. Further investigation would reveal that these traits are a part of his deep commitment to his duty as a Guardian. In his canon, Guardians are trained for the specific purpose of guarding Moroi, which are ‘good’ vampires. They have the ability to use magic and do not kill people to survive. They are also weaker than dhampirs, which are half-human, half-vampire. Dimitri grew up the way nearly all dhampir do; with the constant mantra that dhampir protect the Moroi, and that to do anything else is close to blasphemy.

Dimitri comes from a somewhat large immediate family, of which he is the only male. Growing up, it was expected that, as a male, he would become a Guardian, while his sisters would raise children. It’s what his mother did when she had her first child, and it was simply the way he was raised. Dimitri never saw this as a burden, however, and has always taken his job seriously and had done incredibly well at it.

As such, his honor and his commitment to his duty is one of the most important things to him. He attempts to stay away from the love of his life, Rose, because they are supposed to be destined to guard the same vampire, and he knows he has to be able to protect his assignment before her. If they are in love, he’s not sure he’ll be able to do that. He eventually fails in this task, but he knows that in order for their relationship to continue, he’ll need a different assignment, because he refuses to ignore his duty.

Most people also find Dimitri to be incredibly intimidating, though this is mostly because of his sheer size. He’s made of rock hard muscle, and at 6’7”, he’s generally much taller than your average person. His abilities as a fighter are also well known, along with his ability to remain cool under pressure, and only add to his fierceness and reputation.

For those that spend enough time with him and gain his love, Dimitri proves to be incredibly gentle, loving, and even romantic. He can be sometimes a bit harsh when he disagrees with Rose, but love is always the reason behind his words, and he always means well. He’s usually even right, and likes to provide otherwise with words of wisdom. Indeed, he is much more mature than your typical 24 year old, as he’s something of an ‘old soul.’ This is in part due to all of the difficult things he’s seen; a Guardian tends to have to grow up much faster than a normal human would, or they won’t survive for long. Their lives are hard and dangerous, and oftentimes rather short, so this isn’t particularly surprising.

Despite him being seemingly unshakable and calm at all times, Dimitri is actually just a near master of control. Inside, he is an incredibly emotional and intense person; he’s just had to learn how to control those things so that he can be as effective as possible. Only very rarely does Dimitri’s temper explode, and when he does it always involves someone he loves very much. For example, he lost control when he was 13; his father, a Moroi lord, was abusive towards his mother, and Dimitri finally snapped and beat the crap out of him. Rose has also been able to bring out his less controlled side with some of her more snarky comments, but that’s because he allows himself to relax some around her.

This is also related to his intense protective streak, as his calm demeanor seems to dissipate most quickly when he feels he needs to protect a loved one. Rose is usually at the receiving end of this protectiveness, and he has one several occasions put himself in harm’s way to help or save her.

During the series, Dimitri is turned into a Strigoi, or an undead vampire, during a battle. As a Strigoi, Dimitri’s personality changed immensely. He was incredibly cold and calculating, cared very little for the lives of others, and enjoyed toying with and controlling people. He had high aspirations of taking over the powerful group he joined during his time as a Strigoi, and even succeeded. He was violent, sadistic, abusive and uncaring, as well as intensely obsessed with Rose.

After Rose’s best friend, Lissa, was able to return Dimitri to his original dhampir state, his personality shifted again. At first, he was incredibly dependent upon Lissa, whom he saw as his savior. He seems himself as being incapable of love, partially because he thinks he’s incapable of the emotion after being undead, and partially because he no longer thinks he deserves it. He questions his own morality often, because despite not being himself when he was a Strigoi, he still has the memories of doing terrible things, and the guilt, shame and despair of knowing how much he’s hurt people has been incredible debilitating. He pushes Rose away because he can barely stand to look at her after what he did while he basically held her hostage.

It doesn’t end his protectiveness of her, however, and his care for her is proven when he helps break her out of prison to help prove her innocence. He’s slowly but surely remembering what it was like to be himself, though it’s an arduous process, one that Rose both helps and hampers at times. (Thought, let’s be serious, it more of the former.)

Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses:

Dhampirs are faster and stronger than humans and Moroi, though not on as supernatural a level as Strigoi. They are resistant to compulsion in comparison to humans, and also do not generally get typical human illnesses. They heal quicker than normal, and can take more physical damage. Nearly all of them have had extensive physical training, and are incredible fighters with both melee weapons and hand-to-hand combat. Dimitri is even more prestigious than most Dhampir, making him an incredibly formidable fighter.

Due to the fact that he is was formerly Strigoi and was restored by spirit magic, he cannot be turned again. The process would simply kill him instead.

Dhampirs do not have any of the weaknesses that vampires suffer from. His current weaknesses are all mental in nature; he’s currently suffering for a large amount of guilt over the things he has done while Strigoi. This pain is sometimes crippling, and he is susceptible to mental breakdowns, believing himself to be a monster who should never be forgiven. His other greatest weakness is Rose; if she were in danger, he would literally throw himself in front of bullets to save her. Though he would not be entirely reckless, still attempting to formulate a plan if possible, he would gladly give his life to save hers, and is far more impulsive than normal where she is concerned.

[He needed to track down Rose, had been about to chase after her, into the forest.
Instead, the world had gone dark, and he’d woken up here.

I need to speak with who is in charge. I don’t have time for this. I’m needed elsewhere.

[He’s all business, sounding self-assured, even if he’s anything but. What would he even tell them? He’s not sure, but he can’t stay here. Rose thinks she can help her friends, but she can’t. Not by acting rashly, and certainly not by running off on her own.

Not that he’d expected anything different, really. He should have seen it coming. Leave it to her to do the one thing that could catch him off guard.]

Rose. Sydney. If you’re here, please let me know.

[The instruction is deliberate and intense, but that’s all he says before he ends communication.]

Hopefully this works. There’s brackets but the writing is essentially still tl;dr prose.

Otherwise I have this, where we switch to prose after two replies.

He is incredibly cold and calculating, caring very little for the lives of others, and enjoying toying with and controlling people. He has high aspirations of taking over the powerful group he joined during his time as a Strigoi, and even succeeds in doing so, defeating several other Strigoi in combat and taking on their leader, who should have been much more powerful than he due to her age. He was violent, sadistic, abusive and uncaring, as well as intensely obsessed with Rose. He kidnaps her, feeds on her daily, and uses the drug-like bite to attempt to manipulate her into wanting to become like him, and live with him forever.

Due to the loss of his humanity, he no longer loves her, he simply wants to possess her. It’s the way the emotions carries over to his new life as a Strigoi, as they cannot feel positive emotions. Love turns to obsession. They cannot see beauty, only death and destruction. What emotions he does feel are twisted into ugly things. He’s still very capable of restraining himself, but he only does so to further his standing, protect himself, and to plan his next move. He’s patient, but not nearly as much so as when he was alive, and he has the tendency to snap at strange moments and lose his temper when he doesn’t get what he wants. He craves power and control, and doesn’t trust anyone, not even Rose.

When Rose escapes, he chases her relentlessly, stalking her and sending her letters about how he has no choice but to murder her since she refused his offer to become a Strigoi like him. He’s ruthless and cunning, and is perfectly content to murder and kidnaps whoever he needs to to get her. This is his state of mind when he arrives at Teleios.

Powers/Abilties:
Dimitri was previously a Dhampir, meaning he’s half-human and half-vampire. Dhampir are stronger and faster than humans, giving them a physical advantage over them, though they are not as powerful as Strigoi, or undead vampires. The vast majority of Dhampirs go to special academies, where they train to become guardians so that they can protect Moroi, or the good vampires in their world, from the Strigoi. This means that, not only are the genetically predisposed to strength and agility, but they spend a great portion of their lives honing skills involving fighting and physical activity. They also heal faster than normal, and are more resistant to compulsion than humans.

Dimitri himself was considered to be one of the best guardians out there. He’s an incredibly skilled fighter, and he also has a lot of skill in tracking. He’s very resourceful, able to think quickly and react/adapt to situations, and can also hotwire a car (just don’t ask where he learned that).

It is important to note that Dhampirs also do not possess any of the weakness that vampires have. They have no difficulty being out in the sun, nor do they drink blood.

However, after being forcefully turned into a Strigoi, Dimitri became the undead version of vampires in his world. He’s essentially dead, and his ties to his humanity have been cut off. His strength, speed and senses have been increased to super-human levels, and his bite creates euphoria and addiction in those who fall victim to it. He requires blood to survive, and can live off of human, dhampir or Moroi blood. The latter two are preferred, and Moroi blood is the best of all, for it make the Strigoi more powerful. He also has the ability to turn any human, dhampir or Moroi into another Strigoi if he so chooses.

This comes with weaknesses, of course. He would burn to death in the sunlight, and he cannot walk on consecrated ground. While he is effectively immortal, he can be killed by a silver stake, enchanted with the four elements of fire, water, air and earth, and staking him in the heart with it.

All of these supernatural abilities, however, would be taken from him upon his arrival to Teleios.

Appearance:

Dimitri is described as have god-like good looks. He stands at a very tall 6’7”, and is well built and muscular from years of intense physical training. He has shoulder-length brown hair that he sometimes ties back in a ponytail, though strands commonly escape it. He normally has chocolate brown eyes and tan skin, though his change to a Strigoi has left him with ashen, nearly grey skin, and each eye have a ring of red around its pupil.

He also has several tattoos on the back of his neck. One is his promise mark, and he also has seven molnija marks and one zvezda neatly tattooed beside it. These represent his Strigoi kills, one molnija for each Strigoi, while the zvezda indicates that he was in a large scale battle and took down many enemies (but unsure of exactly how many). Images of these marks is found here

His favorite article of clothing is his long duster coat, which he wears whenever possible. Generally it is worn over a t-shirt and jeans, though he also cleans up well when needed.

The book felt weightless in his hand as he flipped to the last place of the chapter he was reading. Dimitri had always enjoyed westerns, and his taste in literature had remained even after he’d been awakened. There was something about the grit and the dirt that permeated through them that attracted him even now. They felt more real, the characters living a difficult life and yet remaining steadfast to their ideals, even if they were less than savory at times. They still possessed a code of honor.

Dimitri’s ‘code’ had changed, of course, but that had come with the opening of his eyes. How little he had known before the change. It was something Rose would come to learn, once she finally relented. She was simply being stubborn, but it wouldn’t be long now. It couldn’t be.

He closed the book and laid it in his lap, looking over to where she slept peacefully in his bed. He could see each of her features with perfect clarity, even from across the room. He wanted her even now, and it was a need that felt ingrained into his very being. He had to have her. She belonged to no one else. Nathan wanted to kill her, as did most of the others in the compound, and only Galina saw her the way he did, full of potential and promise.

His red-rimmed eyes fell upon her throat, the gentle slope from where her jaw ended down to the curve of her collarbone. He could see the dried blood there, left in the spots where his fangs had puncture her flesh. He could still taste her blood on his tongue, hot and vibrant and his for the taking. She gave it willingly now, and it made him smirk to think of the way she’d tilt her head away to expose herself to him when he leaned in to taste her. The first few times she’d been surprised, but not anymore. When she woke, she’d be aching for him, and that knowledge filled him with desire for her.

It was only a matter of time before he had her completely.

Rose stirred in her sleep for a moment, as if sensing his eyes upon her, before she quieted again. She’d be awake soon, but he wouldn’t disturb her. For all of his impatience, he could let her sleep for now. Besides, he wanted to read another chapter of his book.

Character History (Pre-Veil):

Wikia link

Post Veil History:

Dimitri arrives through the veil in Russia with a stack of Abe’s (Rose’s fathers) cash and his enchanted silver stake. Due to his near total amnesia, he clings to the only hazy memory he can think of; he knows he’s from Russia and that his family lives there, so he starts to search for them, assuming that he was transported to a different place as opposed to a different world.
With no real idea of where to start looking, seeing as he only has a family name and that’s it, he travels from big city to big city asking around and having zero success, while staying in hostels to try and stretch the money that he has for as long as possible.

Eventually, through his interactions with people, he learns the truth of his arrival, and gives up his search once he realizes that the likelihood of anyone he used to know being here is extremely slim.

When his funds are about to run out, he ends up attempting mercenary work, though those who employ him find that he will only take certain kinds of jobs, in particular, ones that he doesn’t find morally ambiguous. He’s particularly fond of bodyguarding positions, as this is similar to what he remembers as being his role before amnesia set in.

How he meets the knights can be flexible. I can either say that he met one through his ‘job,’ saying that he earned enough of a reputation for someone to approach him, or if you have a better idea, I can swing that too. He’ll have been in the game’s world for a couple of months by this point.

Chosen Canon Point:

“Last Sacrifice” – End of Chapter Six

Personality and Psychology:

It doesn't end his protectiveness of her, however, and his care for her is proven when he helps break her out of prison to help prove her innocence. He’s slowly but surely remembering what it was like to be himself, though it’s an arduous process, one that Rose both helps and hampers at times. (Thought, let’s be serious, it more of the former.)

However, without his memories of being a Strigoi, the guilt that he felt that was crushing his emotions and greatly hampering him will be gone.

Memories Retained or Lost:

Dimitri will lose the vast majority of his memories. He’ll know his race, and he’ll retain knowledge about being a Guardian and what it entailed. However the names and faces of people he knew will be lost to him. If he were to run into/see pictures of Rose or his family members, he would find them familiar and maybe have a lingering emotional reaction, but it would be more like déjà vu than anything else. He will inherently trust Rose and work well with her, even though he believes he’s never actually met her before.

As far as his past, he’ll know that, before his arrival, he’d broken someone out of prison, but he doesn’t know who, and he doesn’t know why.

Powers and Abilities:

Dimitri is a Dhampir, meaning he’s half-human and half-vampire.

Dimitri himself is considered to be one of the best guardians out there.

Kawakami Bansai had not experienced a battle worth his attention in a long while. It seemed like it had been ages since he’d had the opportunity to enjoy the steadily increasing tempo of an epic fight, to get wrapped up in the notes that sprang from each clash of metal upon metal, jumping octaves along with the bright sparks. To be completely immersed in the sway of another’s sound. The last time it had happened, he had made the decision to follow that person into hell with little more than a second thought. This time, though, it had been almost dizzying. Overwhelming.

That had been what it was like to fight Sakata Gintoki. No, to fight Shiroyasha.

His music had been brilliant, as bright as the unusual color of his hair, and yet it had been maddening because he hadn’t been able to follow it. It was unruly and unkempt, changing and shifting with each passing measure, and it had taken all of his skill to keep the man from instantly defeating him with each of the swings of his wooden sword. That one encounter would most surely inspire many of the songs he would write in the coming months, perhaps even longer. Bansai hadn’t enjoyed a fight like that since…

Well, since he’d met Shinsuke, who sat on the opposite side of the room he now inhabited, years before. Though to most people, the room would have simply been filled with silence other than the gentle tones emanating from the shamisen in each of the men’s hands, Bansai heard an entire chorus; this tune was deeper and darker than the man who had eventually defeated him, but it enthralled him all the same. Even moreso, as it always had, and it came from the only other person in the room.
He knew what the man was going to ask for before he even opened his mouth. Shinsuke would want answers, and as a man of his word, Bansai would answer them truthfully. Though he had been defeated, the main task he’d been set to accomplish, to distract the government’s military, had been successful. It was the side mission, the one that would have been most difficult, that did not happen, and he easily shrugged off Shinsuke’s comment about being weak. They both knew that wasn’t the case, it was simply a way of expressing mild disappointment.

And the musician himself couldn’t possibly be disappointed. Even with the peak of the piece being that fight with his master’s old comrade, there were other shining examples of sounds he always craved to hear among the Shinsengumi as well. Sounds that he wanted to hear again someday, to see what other tunes they could make together. It reminded him of Shinsuke’s own organization, only the music had an entirely different feel, and although he didn’t believe he could, or would ever want, to harmonize with them, it was most certainly intriguing to hear.

It was the first time he hadn’t been upset about losing, if only so he could experience it again in the future.

Any other important information (including special inventory items in their possession):

The only item of note that he still possesses is his charmed silver stake from home.

Why do you think this character would join/work with the Knights?

Dimitri believes in things like duty and honor, and he wants his life to have purpose and meaning. Protecting others is what he does best, and finding a group dedicated to helping people and making a difference will most definitely appeal to him. He’s something of the perfect candidate for this kind of thing; he’s used to dangerous situations, he’s good at following orders, and he’s resourceful and serious about what he does.

Do you have a preference for which NPC brought in your character?

None! I leave it in your capable hands. <3

» Suitability: n/a

» Orientation: Straight, as evidenced by his sexual encounters/relationship with the main character, Rose.

» Personality

» First Person Sample Choice: Prompt One

This could not have happened at a worse time.

[He needed to track down Rose, had been about to chase after her, into the forest.
Instead, the world had gone dark, and he’d woken up here. He’s still naked, other than the thick, silver metal collar around his neck, though the device only shows him from around the mid-chest area and upward.]

» Third Person Sample Choice: Prompt Two

Dimitri knew he was dreaming. He’d lived this before, felt her lips pressing up against his, felt his entire body go rigid from surprise. He melted into in a moment later, the way he had when he’d felt the electricity spark between him, the fire that he thought had died when he had the first time.

Next, he was supposed to feel the force of her knuckles impacting with the side of his face, fall away as she shoved him, scramble to his feet in order to give chase. He expected them, tensed for them. But they didn’t happen.

Instead, her body arched against his beneath him, her mouth hungrily capturing his, and he didn’t fight it. He didn’t want to, not when he was surrounded by her scent, her body, her heat.

He’d been fighting it, he knew. The constant urge to pull her in and claim her, like they had in the cabin at St. Vladimir’s before things had fallen apart around him. He could still remember how it felt, to love her, to kiss her, to be inside her. It had only happened once, and sometimes he regretted it, but for none of the reasons one would guess. But he couldn’t love her the way he used to, the way she deserved. And she belonged to someone else, someone he respected, who could give her things he couldn’t.

Those thoughts all fell away, smothered by the taste of her in his mouth, and he’d somehow forgotten how wonderful she tasted. (That thought sent a terrifying burst of cold through his limbs, but even that was drowned out by the burning need he felt for her.) He released her wrists, his fingers instead reaching for the fabric that always clung to the exact places that would distract his mind, and pulling it away.

This dream spoke the truth. If things had gone down that path, he didn’t think he could have resisted her. And after everything he’d done to her, what kind of person could do this to the person they loved the most.

He would have her, and she would have him. And when it was over, he would know, for once and for all, the truth.

He really was still a monster.
